Formation of Himalaya Mountain

The Himalayas is a mountain range in the Indian subcontinent. It divides the Indo-Gangetic Plain from the Tibetan Plateau. This range has highest peaks on Earth which is Mount Everest (highest above sea level). The Himalayas have intensely shaped the traditions and cultures of South Asia. Many Himalayan peaks are sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism.

The Himalayas are bordered on the east by the Indian states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The Himalayas bridges 5 nearby countries: India, China, Nepal, Bhutan and Pakistan. Lifted by the collision of the Indian tectonic plate with the Eurasian Plate, the Himalayan range runs northwest to southeast in a 2,400-km long arc. The range varies in width from 400 kms in the west to 150 kms in the east.
