Australia vs. New Zealand Day 4, First Test Match:
Australia is dominating the first Test Match after setting up the huge total in the first inning itself which gives a significant lead to them to declare their second innings early and give ‘Black Caps’ the massive target of 504 which seems impossible for them. Brisbane weather seems to play a major role on Day 5 as rain storm wiped off the final session of Day 4 which could have been crucial for the Australian bowlers.
New Zealand still requires 361 runs to win as they are 142/3 when rain interrupted the play and ensured the play won’t start. So, it will be on the final day when the result will be decided whether Ross Taylor (20 not out) and NZ skipper Brendon McCullum (4 not out) will save the Test Match or not.
The play will resume with a huge pressure on both the batsman as it is last known last recognized pair for the team. Lyon got the inform batsman Williamson and that gave the upper hand to the Aussies in this Test Match.
The unlikely achievable target of 504 will put NZ to try drawing the match keeping the 7 wickets in hand till the end of the day but the spinner Nathan Lyon is attacking with his deliveries turning more on the pitch. Steve Smith, Australian Captain, says,
” We bowled pretty good after lunch today making the opponent on backfoot. We thought of taking couple of wickets today but you can’t control the weather.”
Martin Guptill showed blistering Test Match performance for the team so as to save the first going-to-lose Test Match. He made 23(133) runs by batting more than 3 hours making a partnership with Latham until Starc’s yorker preyed him. The Test Match is going in a very interesting stage where any results can be possible when team nowadays are chasing 450+ scores also and with Brendon-Taylor nobody can’t say that it’s unachievable.
